now faith is

After an in-depth study of Hebrews 11 across multiple Bible translations, I wrote this original poem to explore the essence of faith as revealed in Scripture. Every line is drawn directly from Hebrews 11, crafted to capture the heartbeat of what faith is and what it does.

This piece traces the movement of biblical faith, not as vague optimism, but as bold conviction, rooted in the unseen reality of God’s promises. From Abraham’s obedience to Moses’ courage, from miracles to martyrdom, this poem reflects the grit, beauty, and power of lives lived by faith.

It’s a portrait of the kind of faith that pleases God: the kind that walks into the unknown, overcomes fear, endures suffering, and trusts in the God who raises the dead.

Faith is the conviction of the reality of things not seen.

Faith understands that the things which are visible were made by the Word of God.

Faith lives as if it sees the One who is unseen.

Faith looks at the ultimate, not the immediate.

Faith goes, even when it does not know where it is going.

Faith responds to the call of God and chooses His will.

Faith keeps His commandments and obeys in reverence, preferring to endure the hardships that may come with following God over sin’s temporary pleasures.

Faith sees what is coming and prepares for it.

Faith imparts blessing and calls forth the heirs of God’s righteousness.

Faith births God’s promises because faith considers the One who made the promise faithful. Faith concludes that God is able to raise the dead because faith raises the dead.

Faith trusts when put to the test. Faith knows no fear, for it refuses to be afraid. Faith makes the weak strong and produces valiant unbeatable warriors in battle. Faith sparks courage to win an impossible fight and puts enemy forces to flight. Faith conquers kingdoms, establishes justice, and pulls promises into reality. Faith demolishes walls, quenches the violence of fire, and shuts the mouths of lions. Faith clears a highway through the sea while drowning out its enemies.

Faith endures persecution, atrocities, affliction, chains, imprisonment, torture, loss, and even death. For faith would rather die believing in God than live denying Him.

Faith pleases God.

Faith does all these things because faith believes.
